Moving Checklist

 

 ■ Cancel or transfer deliveries, newspaper, garbage collection, etc.Avoid lapses in service and extra re.start expenses by coordinating the transfer of gas, electric, water andsewer (when not handled by the title company) with the next occupant of your old home, as well as withthe previous owner of your new home.

■ Make service arrangements for utilities/phone/internet/TV at new home.And, don’t forget to claim any refunds from your present utility and phone companies.

■ Transfer insurance policies or arrange for new policies.

■ Update new address for Post Office, charge accounts, employer, DMV, subscriptions, and anyorganizations with which you’re involved. Also remember family and friends.

■. Save your old address labels to speed up your change of address forms.

■. Gather all valuables from you home, i.e. jewelry, birth certificates, deeds, important documents

■ Check on and/or collect personal items outside of the home, i.e. bank safety deposit box, dry cleaner’s, a neighbor’s house, repair shops, etc.

■ Make arrangements for transporting your pets and plants.

■ Have your car serviced, if you are relocating to a new city or state.

■ Appraise valuable items, such as antiques, art pieces, etc.

■ Purchase moving insurance. Your mover’s liability for lost or damaged goods will not equal theirreplacement cost.

■ Pack an arrival kit, just in case you arrive before movers.

■. Check with your attorney about your will, if crossing state lines

■ Ask for professional referrals if available, i.e. doctor, accountant, etc.

■ Leave all keys needed by new owners, garage door openers, manuals, list of home service people, etc.
